A concerned resident has taken up an initiative and started a petition to have a full time Police presence in Canowindra. The petition currently has over 100 signatures of Canowindra residents.
After speaking with MP Phil Donato, he suggested the petition as a first step in gaining traction, and then the concerns of our residents can be addressed in Parliament.
The petition has been circulated around town, at the Canowindra Services Club and the Canowindra Bowling Club, and is currently located at Lawrence’s IGA.
The NSW Police Force is one of the largest police organisations in the English speaking world. Canowindra is located in the Western Region of the NSW Police Force and covers 520,600 square kilometres. It extends from Barrier in the west, along the state’s northern border to Barwon and New England in the north, down through Oxley and Mudgee to Chifley, Canobolas and Lachlan.
The Chifley Police District’s facebook page has some handy hints to securing and protecting your home and property.
The Lights, Camera, Catch ‘Em campaign advises on the following steps;
• Lock It: Make sure doors and windows are locked and secured. Do not leave keys in locks.
• Alarm It: Ensure the alarm is visible from the street and makes a loud noise.
• Light It: Install security sensor lights around the outside of your home.
• Record It: Modern CCTV camera and recording equipment are a cost effective preventative measure.
