Our Gal – Sue Smedley

Sue Smedley

How long have you lived in Canowindra? Well actually, I live in Orange, but I did live here for almost 5 years on a farm.

What do you love about Canowindra, and what brings you back every week? I volunteer at the Canowindra Craft and Hobby shop. I just love Canowindra, everyone comes in for a chat. The drive out here with the beautiful scenery is also just lovely.

What inspired you to start volunteering? It started when we lived here and I had too many jams made from my Seville Orange tree for my husband and I to eat. I asked if the craft shop would sell them for me. I now come every week with a range of jams, all home grown.

What are your hobbies? A lot of gardening, including veggies, tending to my chickens. I also enjoy sewing my own clothes, knitting and cooking.

What do you do on weekends? Knitting, I brought a knitting machine and I am learning how to use that. I also care for my elderly mother-in-law. Lots of tending to the garden and sewing.

What is on your bucket list? Learning the knitting machine! And taking more time to relax.

What was your favourite holiday? When my husband and I took long service and spent three months travelling the South Coast. It was just the most wonderful holiday.
