Our Gal -Jess Swords

3 July, 2019 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

How long have you lived in or around Canowindra and what is the best thing about living here? My family and I moved here about 2.5 years ago. Canowindra has a fantastic community spirit and there is always something to do, which is great in a small town.

Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I am a Kindy teacher at Canowindra Public School. I love seeing the huge growth the kindy kids make in such a short amount of time and their willingness to learn. They treat me like a rockstar and bring a smile to my face every day!

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? I love socialising with friends, reading in bed and spending time with my family….but I also really like alone time!

What makes you proud? My children and husband make me proud. I am also proud of the kids I teach every day.

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? I’d be a sloth so I can lay around and read all day.

What is your all-time favourite movie, song and/or book, and why? Fav movie is About Time, fav book is Jessica by Bryce Courtney and there are too many great songs to pick a favourite. Maybe Shallow by Gaga (personal joke)!

What is on your bucket list? I mostly have travel on my bucket list – I really want to go to Greece or anywhere really with crystal clear water.

What are you really good at? I make a really good gin and tonic.

Tell us about your best holiday ever? Bali with friends and a close 2nd would be Palm Cove with my family. I love anywhere hot with swimming and cocktails.

What makes your day? Starting with a strong coffee, my kids and students learning and having fun and finishing off with a good read in bed.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? Before I was a teacher, I was a beauty therapist in Dubbo. While there, I was crowned the 3rd fastest waxer in the west, ha ha!
