Our Gal – Emily Thomas

2 February, 2023 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

This week Our Gal is Emily Thomas, Young Citizen of the year award winner.

What is your name and how old are you? My name is Emily Thomas and I am 16.

Where do you attend school? I attend Canowindra High School.

How long have you lived in Canowindra and what do you like about it? I’ve lived in Canowindra my whole life, I really love how tight-knit the community is, everyone knows everyone.

What are your hobbies? I love sports in general, I’ll have a crack at anything but my main sport is hammer throw, which I’ve been doing for four years. There’s also league tag, swimming and dance that i enjoy.

How did you feel when you received the Australia Day award for Young Citizen of the Year and what do you hope to do now that you are a youth ambassador for Canowindra? I felt so incredibly honoured. I would love to get more involved with the community and help where I can, giving back to the town is my overall goal. Whereas for the sport I’d like to help push to get new facilities for the athletes of Canowindra and surrounds!

What are your goals/ dreams for the future? The ultimate dream surrounding athletics is the Olympics which will take a lot of hard work. Other big competitions are also a huge goal of mine. Away from athletics I would like to go to university and study to be a physiotherapist.

What would you change about Canowinda if you could? I don’t think I would change anything at all, the town is pretty great!
