Our Community and Roads

15 December, 2022 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

To the Editor,

We, multiple concerned citizens of Canowindra, would like to address Cabonne Council in this letter, regarding the complete disregard of our community and roads.

It has been several weeks since the flood disaster, and while we appreciate it as being not near the sheer magnitude of devastation caused in Eugowra, we feel we have been abandoned by Cabonne Council in supplying our town with the most basic of safety needs and sanitation regarding debris left from the flood.

Piles of rotting debris are now left behind our main street, being infested with vermin and breeding ground for insects and mosquitos.

Our picturesque town is still being overshadowed by the rubbish left around it.

Cabonne Council promised skip bins and assistance with the clean-up, yet it has not occurred.

On another note, several of our roads are deteriorating under the pressure of large vehicles using unsuitable roads as detours.

Additionally, Longs Corner Road is being used by multiple heavy haulage vehicles, harvest vehicles and local traffic is still at 100km an hour, when residents have repeatedly asked for the road to be reduced to 80km.

Simply being told to drive to the conditions, does not account for the sheer volume of traffic now on that road. The road edges have not been slashed for visibility, centre lines marked and reduce speed signs added. Residents are fearing for the safety of the residents travelling.

Cabonne Council, time to step up and support the residents of Canowindra before someone is seriously hurt.

Regards,
Concerned citizens of Canowindra
