Stephen Tamplin at the fully licenced abattoir Pride of Oak Tablelands Premier Meats.
How long have you lived in or around Canowindra and what do you like about living here? I purchased the “Pride of Oak” in 2002 while based in Parramatta and used it as a step-off base for my work through the outback. When that work finished in 2008, I moved onto the property full-time rather than go back to the Sydney region as I prefer a rural lifestyle.
How are you involved in the Canowindra community? As an employer – I own and operate Tablelands Premier Meats, an all-species abattoir and meat processing plant as well as a butchery outlet in Orange, employing mostly Canowindra locals in those places.
What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? I enjoy the company of my wife, music and good wine.
What are you really good at? I will let others be the judge, but once I put my mind to a task I like to see it through at the highest standard.
What is on your bucket list? Being a pilot, I would like to fly for Angel Flight in the future (maybe in retirement).
Tell us about your best holiday ever? Doing a summer school teaching English at Beijing University in 2005 to pre-migration students. I was taken to a lot of major historic cultural sights as well as a lot of high-tech operations.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I was born in London but left the UK when I was 18 months of age and have never wanted to go back there. I am an Aussie.
