Joel Ulbricht
How long have you lived in or around Canowindra and what do you like about living here? I relocated from the Central Coast in January this year to take on the Festival Director role for the Supagas Canowindra International Balloon Challenge. I’m really enjoying a lot less traffic and being part of an awesome community.
Where do you work and what do you enjoy most about your work? I currently run and own Ulbricht Management which is an event management agency. I work alongside businesses supporting and managing their events, festivals, community initiatives and music tours. Right now it’s all about the Canowindra Challenge; one minute I’m working on ticket sales, the next, I’m trying to figure out how much toilet paper is needed to how many car parks we need.
What do you do to unwind after work or on weekends? There’s nothing better than heading out on a trail or bushwalk on the weekend or firing up the Weber Smoker and slow cooking a brisket or pork shoulder for six or seven hours.
What are you really good at? I’m really good at running out of phone battery by 11am each day without bringing my charger. In fact, if it were an Olympic sport, I’d be a Gold medallist.
What is your pet hate? At the moment, it’s the amount of road work on Cargo Road.
If you could have a super power what would it be and why? Being able to have the ability of charging my phone just by holding it in my hands. It would come in handy after 11am each day.
Tell us about your best holiday ever?
In 2014 I spent two weeks in Alaska and got to travel from Anchorage to Fair Banks (near the Arctic Circle). It was one of the greatest trips.
