No Stopping Area

There have been some changes to the parking around the Canowindra Primary School. The Tilga Street Level 1 entrance where the section in front of the bus bay has gone back to ‘No Stopping’. There had been several reports of dangerous incidents with drivers turning across the unbroken lines on the crest of the hill and then backing across the footpath while children were walking to the front gates. It’s dangerous with cars coming south on Tilga and pulling in with children unsighted behind a bus until the last second.

Principal of the Canowindra Public School Eric Toole said “We looked at alternatives to make it safe, but because the path is such an odd configuration at that spot, going back to ‘No Stopping’ was the best option. I realise this may be a little inconvenient for those who use this spot regularly, but we decided to trade off convenience for safety”.

The best pick up and drop off spot is at the back of the school in Belmore Street. There is also an area behind the bus bay, below the crossing that is good for parking. Although it involves a little walk it does not involve crossing the road.

Initially, the disabled parking sign was placed at the front of the bus bay for a specialised bus. However, when the bus no longer came to the school, that spot became available to anyone with a disabled sticker. The disabled parking at the front of the school is still useable, but only to one vehicle at a time, as there is simply not enough space for more disabled parking. Council has placed another disabled park at the back of the school.
