News from Canowindra High School … Junior Soccer Report

27 May, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Junior soccer has had a busy time in the last few weeks. Both boys and girls were successful in the Rural Cup against Molong.

Bill Turner Cup also commenced this term, with the girls campaign starting with a strong win 5-1 against Dubbo South High School. With a young and inexperienced team we certainly played out of our skins to send Dubbo packing! The girls next faced their old nemesis Cowra High. It was a close and hard fought game with the girls unfortunately going down 2-1. A great effort all round against much bigger schools.

The boys team entered the competition with a round one forfeit from Orange Christian school. In the 2nd round that faced much bigger opposition in St Raph’s Cowra (lets face anyone looks big next to some of our team!) At 1-1 and extra time looming the boys cracked in two late goals to take the win 3-1. The next round saw us matched up against Orange High School. The boys knew they were up against it when they were watching Orange High warm up, while they themselves were chowing down on kebabs minutes before kick off. Those kebabs however had something because we held them out to 0-1 at half time. The final score 1-5 indicated the class of the Orange team but also the determination of our own.

Despite bowing out of the Bill Turner Competition there has been on going inter-school rivalry between our boys and girls teams.
