Year 12 Biology has been very busy during the past few weeks. Term Two began with the third topic in the HSC course, ‘The Search for Better Health’. So far they have looked at the difficulty in defining the terms ‘health’ and ‘disease’, the importance of personal and community hygiene as well as water treatment procedures in Australia.
Using the techniques developed by Robert Koch in the late 1800’s the girls have taken samples of a range of surfaces across the school to investigate microbial growth. So far the sample from a football is looking pretty nasty! The next section they will look at deals with the body’s response to infection – the three lines of defence.
Year 11 have almost finished their second Preliminary topic – ‘Patterns in Nature’. This topic looks at cell structure, digestion, respiration and cell division.
They have worked hard developing new skills for revision in preparation for their Semester One Exams and the results show their effort and application.
