Canowindra Health Service has recently installed a brand new call bell system to better assist staff to deliver patient care. The new Acetek Nurse Call system allows patients and staff to call for help if required and includes an emergency call system which is transmitted to all areas of the hospital.
A new after-hours buzzer at the front entrance of the facility and ambulance bay is also part of the new system. Canowindra Acting Health Service Manager, Tara Bushell, said the new system is a great improvement on the facility’s previous one whilst also being a boost to local health care delivery. “Previously our call bell system indicated what room the patient was in, but with some patients sharing rooms, sometimes it was not immediately clear which patient had pressed the call bell,” Ms Bushell said.
“Patients can be assured that the new system will greatly assist nurses in Canowindra because they will be able to tell exactly where the patient requiring assistance is located. The annunciator boards also give us much more information including how long it has been since the patient called the bell.”
The new system has been operational since May and was funded by the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) as an investment of $77,000. WNSWLHD has had the Acetek Nurse Call system installed in 7 facilities around the area within the last 12 months, and is looking for further opportunities to install this new equipment in more facilities in the coming year.
