Pig producers in NSW now have access to additional processing capacity as Tablelands Premier Meats opens a new pig process line.
While the all-species business in Canowindra already processes pigs, the new facility will increase the site’s capacity.
The abattoir and meat processor has just completed installing their new pig processing line. It is capable of over 30 pigs per hour and can process pigs up to 200kg. Tablelands Premier Meats also offers full smallgoods processing options.
The new processing facility will increase both quantity and quality of output, and remove a lot of the high-risk manual labour associated with livestock processing.
The decision to invest in this upgrade is in direct response to the steady demand for pig process services in the region, brought about in part by the decline in processing options due to some processors rules on coloured pigs, minimum number requirements, and other abattoirs just opting out of pig processing or closing altogether.
A significant contributor to undertaking automation has been the on-going difficulty in recruiting labour for this type of work.
