Canowindra High School is taking a proactive stance on the use of mobile devices by students. After consultation with the school community, and ratification by the school’s P&C, SRC, students and staff, the school will enforce an updated Mobile Device Policy from the start of next term. The new policy is a positive move to help provide an ongoing safe environment for the students and allay concerns that these devices can impact on students learning and wellbeing.
Electronic devices have not been banned for Canowindra High School. The school fully understands that there are personal reasons for needing to carry such devices.
However, students are not allowed to use the device during school hours unless it is being used for educational purposes under the direct supervision of teachers. The message to students is clear – “OFF AND AWAY ALL DAY”.
All students have received a copy of the new policy and key expectations have been presented at daily assemblies.
The new policy does not impact on the use of laptops under the BYOD policy. Students are still encouraged to bring their own laptop for use during class time. The new policy will be enforced from the start of Term 4 on October 15.
