Celia Klinger from Canowindra CWA emptying the Soft Plastic Bin.
The CWA Canowindra Branch will be moving one of the Soft Plastic Collection Bins from the outside of Lawrence’s IGA store on 24th December 2019 to a new location.
The bin will be moved because of ongoing contamination of the bin with drink bottles, dockets and rubbish. Volunteers from the CWA branch empty these bins and if they are contaminated they have to send the whole bag to landfill. This really disappoints the volunteer people who are trying to do the right thing.
“Volunteers find leaking empty milk drink containers, coffee cups, cherry seeds, dockets, and other paper which contaminates the soft plastic. Volunteers then have to empty the bag and throw out the ‘milk contaminated’ plastic, clean out the rubbish and repack it. Very unpleasant job for a volunteer,” said Celia Klinger from the Canowindra CWA.
The Canowindra CWA Branch would like to sincerely thank the staff at Lawrence’s IGA in Canowindra for looking after the Soft Plastic Bin for the last 13 months and the people who collect and deposit soft plastic for recycling.
The bin will be relocated in the New Year to the HACC Office/Library entrance in Gaskill St. In the meantime there is another Soft Plastic Bin inside the Foodworks store in Gaskill St, Canowindra if you need to dispose of your clean, dry soft plastic.
