Canowindra Golf Club has a new President in Rowland McCall, better known as Rowly to his mates. Rowly has lived just up the road from the Golf Club for five years, “it’s great because I can just go down the road, grab a cart and go golfing!” He’s a keen player of the sport with a handicap of 16. Originally from the Blue Mountains, Rowly spent 30 years in Queensland and a couple on Norfolk Island where he met a Canowindra lady. They bought a bakery together and ran it for ten years, eventually moving to Canowindra to care for his partners mum. The couple are both golf lovers with Rowly’s partner, Roslyn, the Captain of the ladies golf. Now retired, Rowly is looking forward to his new position as President though isn’t planning any radical changes. “The board was very good last year, they completed a lot of projects and maintenance programmes. Charlie put his heart and soul into it” he said. “I’m not going to change much at all I just want to finish what they began. The Board put the plans in place so I’ll try and see them through.”
