New Book Explores History Of Public Education In Canowindra

23 April, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

All former teachers, students and parents as well as current school and community members are most welcome to attend the launch of The Past Fifty Years of Public Education in Canowindra – 1975 to 2025 in the Canowindra High School Hall on 1 May at 2pm.

The new book records the amazing changes at both the Canowindra Public and the High School over 50 years and is dedicated to all the students and teachers of that time. It is a companion volume to the book produced for the Centenary of Education in 1975 which has been reprinted.

The Past Fifty Years of Public Education in Canowindra – 1975 to 2025 has been researched and written by a team of former teachers, students and community members with support from the Public and the High Schools. Both books will be available for sale after the launch for $25 each.

Following the launch, the book will be available for sale at the Canowindra Historical Society and Museum Inc. during the Canowindra Balloon Challenge week, Virginia Cullane Books, The Age of Fishes Museum Inc. and Canowindra Creative Centre. Order forms will also be available at the launch for internet ordering by card, with a $15 per book, postage and handling charge applied. Orders will be processed by the Canowindra Historical Society and Museum Inc. and local orders will then be available for pickup from each school.

The Canowindra Historical Society and Museum Inc. are the book publishers and have provided the larger portion of the printing costs. The printing costs for the book have also been supported by the Royal Australian Historical Society, Lawrences IGA, and Chris Watson of FarmPix Photography. All interested people very welcome to attend.
