Furniture Placement & Colour does wonders to a room!

Furniture Placement & Colour does wonders to a room!

Wow a month has gone and our journey continues on creating the wow factor …

Furniture placement:

Furniture gives a room a sense of style. Most clients I visit always place their furniture against walls.

Walls serve a purpose in defining a room, but your furniture doesn’t have to hug them. It is a misconception that you create more space by pushing everything against walls. Sofas and chairs do better some distance away from walls, and create a sense of greater space.

Sideboards and bookcases, on the other hand, generally work better flush against the walls. The only exception is when a bookcase or dresser are used as a room divider, because in that instance they are acting as walls and are helping define an area.

Be aware of doorways and traffic areas, placement of furniture can interrupt the flow and make a room cluttered.

Think about the room and how you will use it and arrange furniture accordingly.

Have a focal point whether it be a sofas , painting ,window or architectural feature and arrange pieces that compliment the space around the focal point

Colour:

Colour can transform a room with such little cost. In all the years I have been a Dulux Colour Consultant I have made rooms that have been very average come to life with just a can of paint.

With  over a 1 million colours at our fingertips you can transform a room for as little as $75.00 for a feature wall.

My clients ask me what colour should I paint.

Have a look at the colours in your home maybe your favourite cushion or a painting and choose a colour from that and start experimenting.

Remember paint sample pots are inexpensive and you can paint up a piece of cardboard to check if the colour is right. Don’t forget colour changes with the light, so look it over a couple of days before making the big commitment.

Next month we will explore colour and how it effects our lives.
