Residents at the Salvation Army Moyne Aged Care Centre have been spoiled by the culinary expertise of their in-house chef, who has been producing restaurant quality meals daily.
Moyne’s Chef Michelle has worked in hospitality since she finished school. Whilst Michelle initially begun her hospitality journey at the front of house, she eventually found her way into the kitchen.
Michelle has extensive culinary experience from bakeries to boutique cafes, and fine dining. However, it is the past five years working at Moyne that has provided Michelle the greatest job satisfaction.
“It is a real privilege being able to provide the residents with a good solid meal, knowing that they’re well-fed, happy and content,” explains Michelle.
“A good meal gives the residents that little bit of extra care,” Michelle said.
With her home-style cooking approach, Michelle tailors her meals with the residents at the top-of-mind.
Michelle finds inspiration for her dishes not just from cookbooks, but also from Moyne’s very own residents. “I ask the residents if they want to see something new on the menu,” Michelle explains.
Not only is Michelle’s approach to cooking delicious, but she also strives to ensure it is healthy and nutritious. “I try and make all of our meals gluten free as well as free from a lot of artificial ingredients,” she says.
Moyne residents greatly enjoy anything Michelle bakes, but her signature orange cake is a standout dish and definitely a crowd pleaser. Michelle has been using the same recipe for at least ten years now and even uses oranges picked fresh from Moyne’s very own garden.
