A team of seven blokes working at the Hassad Gindurra property in Canowindra have put men’s health issues on the agenda by participating in Movember, a global charity committed to men living healthier, happier, longer lives.
The guys, each sporting face fur of differing length and thickness, thought it would be “just a bit of fun” at first, but after the company got behind them they soon began to see the importance of raising awareness about men’s health.
The company lost a manager earlier in the year to mental illness, and entering a team into the Movember challenge was a great way to bring awareness to other men about the risks of poor mental health.
“We started to realise there was a bit more to it and it really hit home for us and the company,” says Property Manager Rob Atkinson. “It’s not just about who can grow the most ridiculous facial hair, it’s about creating more awareness in the community.” Some of the guys on the team are more than looking forward to November 30 when they can finally shave the lot off.
“We had strict rules,” says Gindurra Mo Team Captain Huw Coleman. “You couldn’t just grow a beard, you have to keep shaping the mo. You also had to be clean shaven on the first day. We take it pretty seriously!”
