Men’s Bowls

Last Friday night 16 players competed in twilight barefoot bowls with the winners being the team of Penny Nash, Di Clark and Peter Taylor while the runners up were the team of Ben, Michael Traves and Joice McNaught.

Last Saturday the Major Fours Final was played with Paul Markcrow, Terry Mooney, Tony Tuimauga and Vinnie Mirto against Cyril Webb, Brian McClintock, Steve Kirkman and Bruce Webb. It was a close scoring game up to the 15th end where the scores were level at 12 all. For the rest of the game Bruce’s team were able to edge away to win the final 21-14. An O’Brien Cup Semi Final was also played with Tot Fisher and Westy Wyburn against Dool Beath and Kevin Walker. Tot and Westy took control early in the match to win 39-27.

Last Sunday the Minor Triples Final was played with Brian McClintock, Tot Fisher and Westy Wyburn against Garry Fairley, Larry Nunn and Tony Tuimauga. This was another close scoring game up to the 17th end where the scores were level at 16 all.

After that Westy’s team were able to win three of the last four ends to win the final 24-17. The Consistency Singles Final was also held with Teddy Lawrence against Bruce Webb. After 12 ends the scores were close being 75-70 in favour of Bruce. From then on Bruce took control of the game to win the final 150-105.

During last week several Mixed Pairs matches were played. Julie and Garry Fairley won against Karen Cox and Cyril Webb. Crock Watt and Joice McNaught won against Peter McVicker and Leanne Stevenson. Tony Tuimauga and Lorne Burgess won against Terry and Di Mooney. Matt McMullen and Liz Thornberry won against Allan Smith and Jenny Daly. Larry Nunn and Sue won against Steve Kirkman and Di Slattery.

Friday December 21: Twilight barefoot mixed mufti bowls with names in by 6pm for 6.30pm start. One game of 15 ends being turn around triples.
Saturday December 22: O’Brien Cup Final- W Fisher and A Wyburn v G Fairley and R Symons.
Coming event: Sunday December 30 – Men’s Bowls and Golf Day.

Sunday badge draw will be $100 drawn between 5pm and 6pm. Must be in the club to win. Raffles to be drawn at 5.30pm with tickets on sale from 4pm. This will be followed by the novelty event worth a jackpot in excess of $950. Friday badge draw will be $200.
