MEN’S BOWLS

21 November, 2018 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Twelve players competed last Friday night in twilight barefoot bowls. The winners were the team of Steve Kirkman, Tot Fisher and Jenny Middleton while the runners up were the team of Jo Davies, Ron Symons and Larry Nunn.

Last Saturday two consistency singles matches were played. Tony Tuimauga played Matt Cramp. The scores were close right throughout the game with both players reaching 150 on the 24th end. Although the players played an extra end and Tony winning the end, Tony would have won the game anyway on the 24th end as he had the shot bowl on that end. In the other match Teddy Lawrence had a comfortable win against Nigel Knight 154-126.

Last Sunday a major fours semi final was played with Garry Fairley, Ian Nelder, Westy Wyburn and Teddy Lawrence against Cyril Webb, Brian McClintock, Steve Kirkman and Bruce Webb. The scores were close throughout the game with the scores level at 14 all on the 19th end. Teddy’s team led by one shot going into the last end. Teddy’s last bowl didn’t go the way he would have liked resulting in Bruce’s team scoring two shots on the last end and winning the game 16-15. A consistency singles match was also played with Vinnie Mirto against Paul Markcrow with Paul having a comfortable win 150-110.

Friday November 23: Twilight barefoot mixed mufti bowls with names in by 5.30pm for 6pm start. One game of 15 ends being turn around triples.

Saturday November 24: O’Brien Cup- P Lees and N Delaney vs R Symons and G Fairley. A Robson and D Watt vs M Lawrence and G Cummings.

Sunday November 25: Consistency singles semi final- M Lawrence vs T Tuimauga, Marker R Traves.

Nominations for mixed pairs are now called for and will close on November 26. Games will be played on Wednesday evenings starting at 6pm. The format will be three bowls pairs over 15 ends. If your team is drawn to be played and you are unable to play, the game must be played before the following Wednesday.

Sunday badge draw will be $1700 and will be drawn between 5pm and 6pm. Must be in the club to win. Raffles to be drawn at 5.30pm with tickets on sale from 4pm. The novelty event worth a jackpot of $790 will follow after the raffle draw. Friday badge draw will be $1100. Bingo this Thursday 11am.
