Men’s Bowls

29 July, 2026 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Two great games of Major Triples were played last weekend. On Saturday, Dool, Peter Taylor and Roger played Michael and Graham Traves and Brad Bourke. Dool’s team jumped out of the gates early leading 10/2 after 4 ends. Michael’s team pegged back the lead with the scores even on the 9th end 12/12. The game see-sawed until the 17th when Dool’s team won the remaining ends to win 26/19. It was great to see a good crowd watching in the somewhat cool conditions.

On Sunday, Dool’s teamed backed-up to play Phil and Brent Lees and Jamie Grant.

The weather was a fraction warmer, making conditions for play a little better. Dool’s team went to early lead but the Lees team slowly pegged the margin back to lead.

Neither team gave an inch and holding the shot changed regularly on each end. Over the last two ends the Lees team proved too strong and went on to win by six shots.

Jamie Grant led very well and his game has improved significantly over the last month.

Phil, Brent and Jamie G are now in the final and will have to wait for a while to know who their opponents are, due to work and other bowls commitments.

On Sunday 2 August, two games are scheduled with the final of minor pairs final (depending results of rookie singles on Sat

urday). There will also be an O’Brien Cup game, with Michael and Graham Traves versus Brad Bourke and Cristy SullivanWebb at 1pm.

On Saturday the 8 August, Canowindra will be co hosting versatile pairs with Cowra Bowling Club. We have six teams involved and there is a total of 70 teams entered.

There will be 28 teams from all over NSW playing. The format on the Saturday is three different ways of playing pairs game.

All games are at Cowra on Sunday 9 August. Over the next month, we have several players involved in various zone events and wish them all the best.

Reminder to all bowlers in the open men’s events and championship that your sub of $40 dollars are now due.

Club dates to remember are 30 August for our Major Jackpot draws at 7.30pm. The Bolwing Club AGM is planned for 18 October at 1pm. Badge draws are Wednesday $400, Friday $400 and Sunday $800.
