The fabulous new Vinnie Mirto memorial bench seat at the Canowindra Bowling CLub.
Saturday 29 March was the Memorial Day for long serving member Vinnie Mirto. Organised by Donna and Ellie, the day saw an excellent turnout of families and members take part. The 76 players were put into random teams and all winners were put in the hat and prizes were drawn out. It was a very social morning of bowls, with various ages taking part and we may have some new promising bowlers to come. A memorial bench seat was placed on the veranda, made by family member John Paul. It is a beautiful furniture peace and a fitting gesture for a long serving member of the Bowling Club. Thanks you to the ladies for a beautiful lunch on the day. They do an outstanding job and they also supplied excellent meals for our bowlers during pennant season.
On a sad note is the passing of Cyril Webb, who served on both the board and the Men’s Bowls Club. Condolences to his family on this loss.
The major pairs competition commenced last Friday 4 April with a game fitting of a final, let alone a first round game. Phil and Roger played last years finalists Ben and Tony. Throughout the match there was nothing in the scores until the 4th last end when Ben and Tony had mini-break in the match.
Roger and Phil fought back to only go down by one shot 17/16.
Friday also saw a great roll up of social bowlers with Brad and Nigel taking the honours. There was also a great turnout on Thursday, with 14 players taking part. Frank and Mitch came through the winners, and the Jackpot was not won.
There are matches for minor and major pairs on this weekend and a game on Wednesday. The teams for the minor pairs on Saturday 12 April at 1pm are Nigel and Jamie G v Jamie S and Mitch. The teams for the major pairs on Sunday 13 April at 1pm are Dool and Jamie Grant v H Webb and J Webb.
Players if you know you are going away please let bowls programmers know or organise a game mid-week.
The minor and major singles are open until the end of April with matches programmed for 6 weeks, they commence in May 2025.
