The Canowindra Connections Centre (CCC) opened its doors in January 2023 as a new “expression of Church” – a joint initiative of the Canowindra Anglican and Uniting Churches, with the aim to increase community wellbeing, life fulfillment and build happiness and peace in Canowindra.
Food Basket is only one of the activities held at the Centre. Last year, the Centre put many locals through short courses, held vision board workshops, sourced a local counsellor and psychologist to provide face to face mental health services and hosted parent and child activities through Home Start, Cowra.
They also hosted the first “Meals and Memories” lunch for Seniors in conjunction with Cabonne Home Support. Connections Centre’s ethos is built on the understanding that sharing a meal brings us together and reminds us of family times, celebrations and to count our blessings for this life.
This year, with assistance from Cabonne Council the Centre are holding monthly “Meals and Memories” luncheons. On Saturday, 16th March, head back to the 1950s, with the local Canowindra Choir performing songs from that era, playsome trivia and have a good old chin wag about times gone by. The aim of Meals and Memories luncheon is to bring our senior community members together, eat a nostaligic meal and enjoy each other’s company. To ensure no one misses out, transport to and from the Centre can be provided.
You don’t have to be a senior, anyone can attend the “Meals and Memories” luncheons. The CCC extend the hand of friendship to all in Canowindra, which includes Food Basket and any of the activities they host.
The successful monthly Family Games Night commences again on Friday, 8th March from 6pm. This is a fun night that includes dinner cooked by the CCC volunteers using locally grown and food basket products.
The CCC ask for a $20 contribution for individuals and $30 per couple to Meals and Memories and $20 per family for Family Games Night. This helps cover costs and ensures events are financially sustainable and low cost for all.
