Author Kate Gadsby has just released a new book encouraging people to learn about maps and research documents from Australian history.
Australian history is author Kate Gadsby’s passion. An avid historian, she has spent much of the past 25 years researching the history of the Nubrygyn district, Euchareena. This research took her to the archives, libraries, Land Titles Office and mapping authorities of NSW.
Kate’s resulting book Convicts, Capitalists and Corruption spans the arrival of convict ships in Sydney Cove to exploration and settlement at Bathurst, Nubrygyn, Wellington and the land in the ‘outer limits’ beyond the Nineteen Counties. The book is also beautifully illustrated with maps, artworks and photographs from colonial masters.
Kate says Australians are fortunate to have a wealth of written European history dating back to James Cook and the landing of the First Fleet in 1788. Also, as these documents become digitised it makes them accessible for all Australians to share.
