The June long weekend saw a number of visitors return to Canowindra and surrounding villages to experience everything our wonderful shire has to offer.
It was great to see Gaskill St full of people once more on Saturday and Sunday and even hot air balloons filling the skies above Canowindra again, now that COVID-19 restrictions have begun to ease.
With a majority 35% of travellers over the long weekend Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR), it is the local hosts who play a vital role in showing those visitors what to do and where to spend their money. The VFR sector will spend more in cafes, restaurants, attractions, shops, gifts and on local produce which is great to stimulate the local economy.
“Small business reinvests in the local economy at a higher rate than chains do, so I’m encouraging everyone to ‘love local’ and get out and spend wisely in our community,” said Mayor Kevin Beatty.
A new $30,000 tourism campaign ‘We want you back’ will be rolled out this month, a partnership between 10 LGA’s, Orange360 and the Central NSW Joint Organisation. It features Orange, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Bathurst, Oberon, Forbes, Lachlan, Weddin and Parkes.
