WOW what a treat Canowindra has had this week with Balloons filling our skies each morning! Our little village is buzzing with visitors enjoying our Balloon Week. This year there is a record 35 balloons registered coming from around Australia, New Zealand, USA, France and England.
These entrants include the current World, Women’s World, Australian and French Champions so the competition will be fierce.
Canowindra boasts perfect ballooning conditions “Canowindra is situated in a basin, which means the high winds mostly pass over the top thus the winds are generally calm. The road network is also extremely good for retrieving the balloons after they land,” Organiser Jan Kerr said.
This Saturday 28th April the Cabonne Country Balloon Glow will commence at 4pm with a Food, Wine and Craft Market. There will be local children dancing from 4pm followed by the Pilots on Parade at 5.40pm and then the Balloon Glow will start at 7pm.
A standout event of the competition is the Key Grab which will be held on Sunday 29th April. The Key Grab is probably the most spectacular event for the public to watch during the challenge. Balloons launch from a site of their choosing. The aim is to fly in to try and pluck a large key from the top of a flagpole. The key represents a major cash prize for the first one to get it.
Don’t forget to keep one eye on the sky!
