Cowra Shire Council advises residents of the Canowindra area/Belubula River, that Sticky Nightshade (Solanum sisymbrii-folium) is an emerging weed threat in the Central Tablelands.
It is common in moist areas along riverbanks. A General Biosecurity Duty applies to this weed under the Central Tablelands Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan 2017-2022 with a Whole of Region recommended measure being that the plant should not be bought, sold, grown, carried or released into the Environment.
Land managers should mitigate spread from their land. Chemical control is the most effective method as this weed will propagate vegetatively.
Cowra Council Biosecurity Officers will be spraying visible plants along roadways in the area in the following weeks. Enquiries can be directed to Cowra Councils Biosecurity Officers on 02 6340 2070.
