On 23rd January 2024, Canowindra Library temporarily relocated to the Canowindra Masonic Lodge while renovations at the library in Gaskill St take place.
Lodge Canowindra has made its building available to assist the library during this period and is now conducting its regular meetings at Canowindra CWA Hall every 2nd Thursday at 7:30pm. Cabonne Council has applied some valued improvements to the Masonic Centre to suit the requirements of the library and staff.
Last year Lodge Canowindra celebrated 100 years of Freemasonry in Canowindra marking the erection of the current Lodge building. The centenary was celebrated with a dinner held at the Canowindra Services Club. Quite a few family names of those instrumental with the formation of the Lodge still reside in Canowindra.
Freemasonry is the most widely recognised fraternal society in the world. It is a centuries-old brotherhood of men from different religious, ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds. It requires each member to believe in a Supreme Being, or not identify as an atheist, while accepting that his fellow members may hold very different beliefs than his own. The estimated number of Freemasons in Australian is currently over 24,000 with 6 million worldwide.
Freemasonry respects each man’s success and place in society while treating him as an equal in the lodge room. It encourages members to take the lessons learned in the lodge, such as tolerance, integrity, civility, and charity, and apply them outside the lodge for the betterment of themselves, their families, and their communities. Thus, good men build character and become even better friends, citizens, husbands, fathers, and brothers.
Canowindra Freemasons warmly welcome enquiries from adult men of all ages, races, religions, cultures and backgrounds. We are keen to encourage the next generation of Freemasons who will help take the organisation and its valuable traditions into the future.
