St Eddie’s students enjoyed being role models for the preschoolers.
The children from Canowindra Preschool were thrilled to have a visit from the St Edward’s Catholic School students on 17th August to help them celebrate National Science Week.
National Science Week, held this year from 12th – 20th August, is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. The school theme for National Science Week in 2023 is Innovation: Powering Future Industries. The theme incorporates the advancement in technology in all industries, especially using artificial intelligence (AI).
The primary students engaged the preschoolers through a range of science experiments, working together to find the hypothesis and outcomes for each experiment. The older children were extremely helpful with explaining problems to the younger children to help them grasp a better understanding of the exercise.
The teachers of both cohorts enjoyed watching the teamwork on display between the different students. Interactions such as this are extremely important for young children in developiong new social skills. Working with the younger children also helps the primary school students to foster the important skill of patience.
The morning was a resounding success and there is hope for similar events to be held in the future. The younger children enjoyed interacting with the older kids, who were wonderful role models, taking on their new responsibility with pride.
