Local Short Film At Flickerfest 2019

17 April, 2019 By editor

Celebrating its 28th year in 2019 Flickerfest remains Australia’s leading Academy® Accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival and it is coming to Canowindra this Saturday 20th April at Canowindra Showground with gates opening at 6pm for a 7pm start.

This year Flickerfest has partnered with the Supagas Canowindra International Balloon Challenge and Rosnay Organic Wines to present the 2019 Flickerfest short film festival. “You will be spoilt this year with up to eleven short films being screened in Canowindra,” said Joel Ulbricht the Canowindra
Balloon Challenge Festival Director.

The Flickerfest Tour Programme is excited to present the Best of Australian Shorts programme this year with a local Canowindra feel to the night. Local film ‘Cattle’ was shot all around the Canowindra region and includes many of the locals. Kerinne Jenkins Writer/Director of ‘Cattle’ will be at the screening to introduce her film.

Other highlights include ‘All These Creatures’, the winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2018 which was also awarded Best Editing in an Australian Short Film at the Flickerfest 2019 Awards ceremony and fantastical animation ‘Della Mortika: Carousel Of Shame’ winner of the Best Australian Animation award at Flickerfest 2019!

‘Desert Dash’ a wonderful creative comedy by Gracie Otto. On the outskirts of Australia, Opals are now the currency for survival in the game of Desert Dash. When a feisty heroine gets the opportunity to ‘level up’ there is no choice but to win.

Also featured is the delightful indigenous drama from the NT ‘Lil Bois’, by Grant Thompson, the first short film in the traditional language of Ngandi. Comedian and actor Paul McDermott makes a return to Flickerfest, with his beautifully crafted and haunting animation ‘Ghostbear’, which looks at the world’s disappearing species.

Simply sit back, relax, purchase a glass of Rosnay Organic Wine and treat yourself to some amazing food from the Gourmet Food Truck. Screening is outdoors or in the showground pavilion if wet weather. Bring a camp chair or rug.
