The CWA is more than just tea and scones which is always evident during the robust discussion around the different motions presented at the annual conference.
Last week a number of local CWA members attended the annual conference and AGM in Albury. Two important issues raised this year were the concern the Inland Rail may cause flooding to properties along the proposed route and the quality of water available for towns during this extended drought.
Once a motion is passed at a conference it enables the CWA of NSW to lobby the government on these issues.
The CWA Drought Relief Aid has been able to assist several hundred families to cover the cost of day to day expenses, with Scott Morrison pledging $5,000,000 to the fund. Assistance is available through www.cwaofnsw.org.au or speak to a local member and they will be happy to help.
The Prime Minister Scott Morrison was a surprise visitor to this year’s conference. Jan Kerr, President of the Canowindra CWA and CWA Central Western Group, took the opportunity to speak to him about the need for upgraded infrastructure for the Canowindra Showground.
