The Canowindra community is celebrating a major local achievement this week following the announcement that Jack De Freitas has been named the Western NSW Region Apprentice of the Year.
The prestigious accolade recognises exceptional training achievements, leadership qualities, and dedication within vocational education and employment across the region. Jack, an apprentice with regional electricity distributor Essential Energy, secured the top spot against a highly competitive field of finalists from across the Western New South Wales region.
The award highlights Jack’s personal work ethic and technical expertise, as well as the vital role local trade pathways play in supporting regional infrastructure. Working with Essential Energy, Jack has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to safety, technical excellence, and community service—qualities that are essential when maintaining the region’s vast power network.
Following his regional success, Jack will now represent Western NSW at the upcoming state-level awards which will be held in Sydney later this year.
