I am a new arrival to Canowindra. I have recently spent some time walking around the disused Canowindra silos and wondered why nothing has been done to capitalise on the tourism opportunities of this fantastic site.
Do you know if the land is still owned by Government or privately?
Seems like that the entire area is going to waste. Positioned perfectly to provide a rest stop for travellers from Parkes/Forbes with plenty of off street parking. With the addition of an amenities block and some picnic tables, maybe even an old train carriage acting as a coffee shop would be an inviting place for the weary traveller to stop.
It would be great to reach out to the community for photos of the mill in its heyday to showcase its history as you wander around the old buildings.
With so many talented artists in the area could we not do something like Thallon has done with their silos. Or a silo light show as Sunshine Council has done?
As mentioned, I am new to the area so not sure if these ideas have already been floated, if not, is this something the community and council can get behind? Just a thought.
