This map shows where Robert Sherwood’s war vetran great-uncle Joseph Coghlan lived.
Hello Editor,
While commemorating who served in WWI and particularly those from the Canowindra area, your illustrator should be reminded that 2021 is the centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force, meaning that there was no RAAF in WWI.
I am an ex-member and the heroes of WWII and onward should no doubt be celebrated.
In particular Bobby Gibbs (WWII Kitty-hawks) with whom I once flew in Papua New Guinea in 1976 and a prickly Group Captain Susans (Sabres in Korea) whom I knew in Malaysia in 1971.
On the subject of WWI vets from Canowindra, my grandmother’s brother, Joseph Coghlan lived on the Woodstock Road at a property owned by his parents as shown in the image of property maps (see right) and he served in France in WWI until medically repatriated.
His service number, from memory, was 1806 and his photo can be viewed at war records for those interested in accuracy.
Regards,
Robert Sherwood
