Dear Editor,
I wish to advise you of an impending legal action for defamation, that may involve the Canowindra Phoenix as well as a prominent local citizen. In a recent edition of “The Phoenix”, you allowed Mr Mark Ward to promote his prejudicial views on our valued clients, Chilli and Coriander. The unfortunate column carrying these views is called “Our Bloke”. We can only hope not.
In disparaging our valued clients, Mr Ward shows not only a fundamental misunderstanding of the flavour of choice of vast populations, but undermines his own culinary claims to herbaceous pickling. Indeed, our clients ask : who next for this ill-informed tirade – the humble Cummin seed? Our friend the down-trodden, much maligned Semolina? The over-hyped Turmeric?
Were Mr Ward a mere brute citizen of your town, his views might be more easily dismissed. However we understand that he is a 2020 “Citizen of the Year”, and we would expect that this would bring with it a requirement for a higher standard of public discourse. As negotiations towards a public apology by Mr Ward have stalled, our clients have instructed us to begin defamation proceedings. An initial hearing will be held in the Local Criminal Court (Herbaceous and Floribunda Division), at a date to be set.
Yours sincerely
Ima Picklertoo
