To the Editor,
World Diabetes Day this year is today, Thursday 14th November 2019.
To mark the occasion Lions Clubs from all over Australia are holding awareness and fundraising events on Sunday November 17th 2019.
The aims of the day are to raise awareness of diabetes and to raise funds for research aimed at controlling or curing the disease which is prevalent worldwide.
The focal event of the day is to see participants walk a total of 25,760 kilometres (which is the distance around mainland Australia, Tasmania and some of the other larger Australian islands) during leisurely walks in thousands of communities across the nation.
The Lions Clubs of Manildra, Eugowra, Canowindra and Cudal-Cargo are all small clubs without the numbers of members to stage such an event so the four clubs are joining together to put on a promotion at Cudal Showground on that day.
The programme, to get under way at about 10am, will feature novelty sporting events for children, a variety of market stalls, an entertainer, a diabetes information stand, raffles and, of course, a walk around the 800m trotting track to contribute kilometres to the nationwide total.
Admission to the grounds will be $2.00 per adult with children free.
Registration for the walk will be $5.00 per participant with a certificate of participation awarded to everyone who takes part.
We hope that everyone in our areas will give thought to supporting this initiative and that everyone reading or hearing this in an area served by another Lions Club will check out what the local club has planned.
Help us to raise the money needed to fund research to overcome this disease. All funds raised on the day will go to the Lions Diabetes Research Foundation.
