Centrelink recipients please be aware of a Scam that is going around at the moment.
They telephone claiming to be:
• Service NSW or Centrelink
• that you are owed back money
• they will ask for amount you receive
• appointment will be confirmed before appointment
• that cheque will be issued at the scheduled appointment
• message will not be left if you do not answer
• that letters have been sent that have not been responded to
• instruct how to access a registration card
• request money via Apple itunes card before you receive payment or before appointment.
Remember that Centrelink will:
• identify themselves
• know your details (but may ask you to confirm them)
• never ask for money from you by phone
• never mention itunes cards
• will provide you a reference number
Informing Centrelink of any scam callers informs them of the Scammers activities. If in doubt check with Centrelink through credible contacts eg in person, contact details on correspondence or their website www.humanservices.gov.au
