Dear Editor,
Somebody please tell me that this is not true, that it is just a rumour! The building works that have started at the Age of Fishes Museum… what exactly is happening?
Surely they are not building the new fossil storage shed on that part of the land that has been set aside for the completion of Stages 4 and 5 of the museum building. Did Council take the time to consider the original John Andrews Plans for the Age of Fishes Museum which clearly show a further 18m of additional bays that were to be built to complete the museum building; resulting in two exhibition areas that will complete the story of the Age of Fishes? These were “Evolution of Fish through time” and “Devonian Fishes of the world”.
Surely somebody listened when it was pointed out at the last Age of Fishes Museum AGM that the original plans for the Fossil Storage Shed clearly show that it would be built in the far NW corner of the block and that the timeline path from the Newcrest Gallery had already been strengthened to carry the weight of a fork lift and fossil slabs for study and changes in the exhibition.
Because if that storage shed is really going to be built at the northern end of the Age of Fishes Museum it will be a hellishly expensive exercise to move that shed in the future to make way for Stages 4 and 5 of the Museum. Much, much more than the $300,000 the NSW Government paid to Council and the additional $300,000 Council added.
