Dear Editor,
I would like to give an update on Canowindra’s Orana House. Concerns have been raised regarding the condition of Orana House at 32 Ferguson St, Canowindra and its ability to be repaired. A Structural Engineer report has been obtained identifying areas of the building that are in need of repair, these issues are known and targeted for restoration if ‘Canowindra Creative Centre’ purchase the
building and obtain a grant. A Pest Inspection has also been achieved which reported ‘no’ past or current infestations.
A Public Community meeting and an Open Day at Orana House will be held in October for members of the community and invitations will be extended to Cabonne Councillors. This is an opportunity to discuss and voice concerns and/or support for the future of the building. Details will be released nearer to the time.
A petition is active in Canowindra to keep ‘Orana House’ as a ‘community use building’ for Canowindra. The ‘Canowindra Creative Centre Inc’ proposes to purchase the building for the community with management of Orana House under a trustee committee.
The petition is available for one more week at Vinnies, Canowindra Craft Shop, Canowindra Newsagency, Canowindra Pharmacy,
NRMA, Orana House and on the ‘Canowindra Creative Centre’ Facebook page.
Thank you to the businesses that have allowed our petition to reach the public. For further details please contact Deb Rutter 6344 2490 or 0487 801 767 or debrutter@bigpond.com
