This was forwarded rather late for a previous edition of Phoenix. The Orange By-Election looks likely to receive a torrid political pre voting day period. There are four issues which no doubt will feature in this by-election campaign.
1. A protest by the Greyhound fraternity.
2. The Cabonne Council’s anti-amalgamation campaign, an ongoing dispute.
3. The likely sale of the NSW State electricity poles and wires.
4. A recent issue that has since crept in “under the radar” is to do with electricity charge increases, these have risen in two steps: From 01 July to 09 July, Peak Use and Supply Charges have increased by 11.93% and 7.58%, respectively. From 09 July to 14 July,
Peak Use and Supply Charges have increased by 10.00% and 9.56% , respectively.
Overall electricity charges from 01 July to 14 July (now current), have increased for Peak Use and Supply Charges by 21.13% and 17.86% respectively. It is reasonable to assume that possibly many people who live in Rural, Regional and Remote areas will be affected by any one or all of these 4 matters combined if ignored.
