Millamolong Polo Club celebrated their 25th birthday in style at the weekend with over 3,000 visitors to their John Davis Volvo Polo Carnival. Over the past quarter of a century the Club has been able to showcase top quality polo from the heart of the Central West and was the first Club in the Southern Hemisphere to host an official all ladies international.
Saturday’s events included PhyzX Bicycle Polo and a divot stomp for everyone to get their Pretty Woman prance on. There was also a Volvo car vs horse race- a true display of horsepower! The Camp Quality Tractor Parade entertained the little ones on Sunday afternoon before a Dudley Hospital sponsored Lolly Drop sent swarms of children strewing onto the pitch in the search of sugar. Polo match results across the weekend highlighted the calibre of players attending the carnival, including an intense final of the John Davies Volvo Cup. This State of Origin style match saw Victoria the victors over NSW nine goals to seven. The ANL Cup saw Glen Quarry Park smash Molonguli 9-2 ½ while the Fox and Co Hotels Cup was a nail-biting competition between Millamolong A and Willo A, with Willo A scoring the winning goal 16 seconds before the end to win 6 to 5 ½ ! Money raised from the silent auction and raffle items plus a percentage of gate takings and merchandise sold will this year be donated to Riding for the Disabled Orange, Camp Quality, Central West Cancer Services and the Faraja Orphanage in Tanzania. “The Millamolong Charity Fund has raised over $230,000 to date and we look forward to continuing to support charities locally, nationally and internationally,” said Millamolong Social Committee member Sim Madigan. “The weekend was a huge success and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate.” The next event will be held in2017 and if the past few years are any indication the two year wait will definitely be worth it!
