Lawrence’s IGA Community Chest has been running for over 15 years.
Over the course of that time, just about every community group in Canowindra has benefited from the program, and has been assisted by way of money donated to the local sporting and educational facilities.
“It is nice to give back to the community that supports us,” says Lawrence’s IGA Store Manager, Peter Watt.
“The Community Chest benefits nearly every person in Canowindra in some way, and it is especially helpful to the children of Canowindra, through Community support, to have items such as new equipment, educational materials, gardens and so on.”
A presentation of cheques took place outside Lawrence’s IGA on Tuesday 14 December. Canowindra High School, Canowindra Public School, St Edward’s Catholic Primary School, Canowindra PreSchool and Cargo Public School all received $997.96. The Canowindra Junior Cricket Club received $1,083.54.
The continuation of support and the donations that St Edward’s Catholic Primary School has received over the years has been invaluable in providing the very active student body with school equipment.
“This donation means a great deal to the school, and over the many years that Lawrence’s IGA has been supporting our school with the Community Chest, we are extremely grateful,” says Principal of St Edward’s Catholic Primary School, Ken McNamara.
“If you add up all the money that they have given over the years, it is a very generous donation. We are so appreciative of the support and this money will go towards a variety of projects including sporting equipment, creative play equipment and a new creative play garden. “
