Ladies Golf

11 November, 2015 By editor

A stroke event was played on Wednesday 28 October and Thelma Bliss came in the winner with Nett 84, with the ball sweep going to Marea.

The following week was Trophy Day and now this was a very special day indeed as it was Ann Cassidy’s 80th birthday. Congratulations on this milestone Anne and best wishes to you from all past and present golfers.

When it came to the golf, every player was a winner on Trophy Day, but the first to choose her mystery prize was Joyce on a count back from Helen Kemper, with both on 77 Nett. The Ball and Raffle went to Helen Kemper.
Congratulations!

A combined Stableford event was played last week with a small field. Faye and Edna came through as the winners with 63 points. Annette and Eileen placed second with 62 points and Helen Kemper and Ann came third with 61 points. With scores this close, it really shows how close the competition was.

A few of our members have been travelling for their game. Helen Constable,
Rhonda, Annette and Eileen played in the Blue Mountains and although no one came home with any trophies, they were still able to experience the beautiful towns of Leura, Lithgow, Blackheath and Wentworth Falls.

The four courses were all magnificent in their own way, each one offering a different set of challenges. The waratahs, azaleas and rhododendrons were in full bloom in the mountains and the kangaroos were at home at Lithgow.

The final day at Leura was unfortunately called after only 15 holes when the fog rolled in and visibility was less than 150 meters. Duntryleague also held their tournament recently. Helen Constable, Ros, Annette, Helen Kemper and Eileen all enjoyed that beautiful course. No trophies were won but Eileen did get the longest drive prize for Division 2 on Day 2.

Rhonda and Helen Constable really enjoyed the course at Wellington, too, while a few of us will be trying out Oberon next week.

A big thank you is deserved to all of those who attended the Melbourne Cup Luncheon event and of course everyone who helped make it happen. By all reports the lunch was absolutely divine, the fashion parade was inspiring and the Cup, well that all depended on the horse you backed! Everyone had a
fantastic time at the luncheon. The Presentation Luncheon will be held
on Wednesday 25 November. Everyone is welcome to attend, but please remember to put your names in at the Golf Club for catering purposes.

The summer social golf will be commencing in the following week with a 7:30am start, and 15 holes with in-house handicapping.

The upcoming golf Ex Services’ Closing Day will be held on Saturday 21 November, with the Duntryleague closing day held on Tuesday 24 November and the Canowindra Closing Day held on Wednesday 18 November, with a shotgun start at 9am.

Once again, Happy Birthday Ann! These ladies who still play lovely golf after 80 are an inspiration to us all. Although golf can be played late in life,
it’s never too late to start – just don’t leave it too long!
