Local woodchoppers Lachlan Rice, Adam Sunderland, Matt Rice and Denis Howard (Debbie Gihot’s brother), have recently competed at the “Wimbledon of Woodchopping” – the Royal Easter show in Sydney.
The Canowindra contingent, who compete with the Mid Western Axeman’s Association, achieved some impressive results during the ten days of competition.
Lachlan Rice was selected to represent in the NSW U/21s team event as first reserve. However, as fate would have it, he was asked to chop in all three relays, with the NSW team gaining 3rd place. Lachy made the final in the u/18s underhand and came 6th in the final. He won his heat in the u/21s underhand and scored a ribbon, placing 3rd in the final. He then went on to win the Junior (u/ 16s) underhand final, winning a brand new Racing Axe from Tuatahi NZ.
Adam Sunderland also competed in multiple events, including the underhand and standing blocks and was selected to compete in the Mid Western Axemans Association Club relay team. Adam completed the sawing component and the team secured 3rd place.
Matt Rice competed in the father and son combination with his son Lachy, with Lachy doing the underhand and Matt doing the Standing block, and coming 4th in their heat.
Denis Howard placed 2nd in the Veterans underhand and 3rd with Lyndsay Parnell in the veterans double saw.
