Do you agree that our local heritage should be honoured and preserved? Do you enjoy finding out more about the history of Canowindra and our district? You may enjoy joining up with the other 90 local residents who are members of Canowindra Historical Society & Museum.
There is no requirement to come to meetings, held at 10am on the 2nd Tuesday each month, or indeed to have any involvement beyond what you are interested in. The great majority of our members join simply because they believe in supporting local efforts to conserve our heritage and write our histories. A smaller number have the time and interest to come to meetings and be involved in decision making for the Historical Society, and others take on specific tasks that particularly interest them – such as Museum Guides (training and help is provided), conservation of the Museum collection (such as our valuable textiles collection, the machinery collection and the photographic collection), or a particular interest in local and family histories, or in archives management.
We are hoping to find a few more people who would enjoy being Museum Guides. On average this involves being available one Saturday morning about every 5 or 6 weeks, except in mid-summer and midwinter. It’s a great way to get to know the Museum and its treasures.
Yearly membership costs are $15 (seniors), or $20 (adult) or $30 (family). We will post or email a membership application to you – ring Ross Cleary (0410 447 950), or Christine Sampson (0405 441 045). You will be very welcome, in a warm and friendly group.
