The Community Reading Day was held last Friday, 23rd May at the Memorial Park in Gaskill Street & Services Club Hall. The Canowindra Community Reading Day aimed to give parents, grandparents and carer’s ideas and activities to help their child or grandchild develop their literacy skills. It helps them develop great literacy skills through simple everyday activities that can be carried on at home.
The day was a success with all the kids from Canowindra Primary, St Edwards Catholic School, family day care, community groups and other local’s kids getting involved. They took part in drum and rhythm classes, storytelling, painting, face painting done by some of the High School kids, Aboriginal storytelling, Aboriginal dancing and other active fun events. The day went off without a hitch and ended with a BBQ and all the kids received a balloon and a book in a show bag.
