Next Friday 15th March at 8.30am the Canowindra community is invited to rally at the Tilga St crossing between Canowindra Public School and St Edward’s Primary School. P&C President of the Canowindra Public School, Beth Gordon and Mandy Townsend, President of the St Edward’s P&F are hoping to raise awareness on the morning of the dangers the current crossing poses to children trying to cross the busy road.
With a number of near misses reported with children and trucks and or cars the time to act is now!
“We are concerned for our kids safety, and trying very hard to prevent the inevitable,” said Mrs Townsend.
On the morning of Friday 15th March it would be great if as many students, parents and teachers as possible could use the crossing to raise this awareness. All students are required to be with an adult while crossing the road at this time.
At a minimum the school’s P&C and P&F committees are trying to have the current children’s crossing which confuses both motorists and pedestrians on what to do at the time of crossing to a Zebra crossing with flashing lights.
Council members, NSW State election candidates and members of parliament have all been invited to attend along with Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee MP and local media to see firsthand the dangers associated with the current crossing.
