Gaskill St in Canowindra was rocked early on Saturday morning when the Canowindra Newsagency was broken into between 3.00am and 4.00am in the morning when thieves jimmied open the front door. The intruders were seen on the IGA CCTV footage shining torches through the IGA front door and driving up and down Gaskill St about three times. The intruders stole around $70 in coin from the Newsagency’s cash register, upended the cash registers with one now broken and stealing about $60 worth of scratchies and some
cigarette lighters.
They then went on to break into the back office however didn’t realise a local resident was upstairs asleep who woke up, came downstairs and then the intruders took off. Fingerprints were taken on Sunday morning and investigations are continuing. Around Christmas time each year these opportunistic people are on the prowl so make sure your house and car are always locked at night.
There has also been a spate of break ins in Cowra each night and some reported rural thefts on outlying properties. If you are heading away these Christmas holidays arrange for a neighbour or friend to collect your mail and pick up any newspapers or advertising-mail. Test your alarm to make sure it’s working properly. Make sure your sensors are all working and that they trigger the alarm system. Check all lockable windows and make sure the locks are actually working. Don’t leave spare keys including car keys lying around inside your home. Consider using a power adapter with a built in timer to plug in a lamp or radio.
