Junior Cricket

17 March, 2022 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Canowindra Tyre Service Stage 2 played the Cowra Heat last Saturday. The ground was very wet from a heavy dew overnight, so it was to our advantage to bat first. The new Kookaburra very quickly became slippery and our openers need not have been concerned about softening the ball up for the middle order, nature had taken care of that for us.

Again our players showed greater confidence than the week before, pleasing with several weeks yet to play we are really seeing the Stage 2 players enjoy good cricket, good friendships and great skills.

The encouragement award this week went to Sam Markcrow. Sam has enjoyed fame in recent weeks, as he develops a cult following from both the opposition and teammates alike. His energy on the field is infectious and he displays great skills. All who watch on, look forward to Sam celebrating a dismissal with a gymnastics display.

Player of the Week went to Sam Breen for his all round performance. It has been great to see Sam develop his skills and take them to another level in recent weeks. His bowling was on target with fine line and length. Sam has also added to his batting both physically and in the way he approaches his strokes. Pleasing to see him looking for gaps and opportunities to score, in a grade where often defending is considered a win. Sam is certainly showing that he is ready to step up next season to bigger things.
